Help with seeing and gripping

Instruction manuals

Some central-heating control manufacturers can provide you with instructions in braille or large print.

Tactile markers

You can buy tubes of squeeze-on tactile markers. Once set, these form a blob that you can feel, and are useful for such things as marking the settings of a dial.

  • Tacti Mark - available in fluorescent orange, white or black; £3.55 from the RNIB
  • Hi-Marks - available in orange; £4.95 from the Partially Sighted Society

Self-adhesive dots may also be useful for marking buttons and settings.

  • Loc Dots - available in clear or orange; £1.20 for a pack of six from the RNIB

Grippers

Various aids are available to help you grip things. They're not specially designed for central-heating controls, but they may work for you. Some companies that supply these aids are listed below. Before buying, check that they will give you a refund if the product doesn't suit you.
