David Lazarus

Everyone at RiDC is shocked and deeply saddened by the news that David, our dear colleague and Vice-Chair of RiDC, died this month after contracting the COVID-19 virus.

David joined RiDC, first as a Trustee from 2012 and then as Vice-Chair from 2015.

David was a vibrant man, always questioning and always totally committed to our work. He was a warm and loyal colleague, immensely valued and liked by all staff and Trustees.

Gifted with an incisive mind, coupled with an astute turn of phrase, David urged staff and Trustees to question and be practical while never failing to support and nurture our ideas. His challenging questions were always posited in good spirit, with the purpose of improving and and informing our practice.

David was particularly involved in supporting our development and marketing work, providing a positive sounding board which helped us to develop new initiatives and approaches.

The Chair of RiDC Phil Friend:

"The loss of David is painful in the extreme. He was a tremendous advocate for our work and gave me personally unlimited and unwavering support. All organisations have their challenges and RiDC is no exception. David could always be relied upon to provide sound advice and wise counsel. He was direct, honest and unflappable, and I greatly valued and respected him. On a personal level, he was funny, engaging and very human. He was a great supporter of Chelsea Football Club, as am I, and we spent some happy moments talking about their ups and downs."

We will all miss him tremendously, and I feel I speak for everyone connected with RiDC, when I say that David made a real difference to our work and to all the people we seek to help. Our thoughts and prayers go out to David's family and friends at this extraordinarily difficult time.
