How answering surveys helps make the world more accessible

Here, at RiDC, we undertake research that increases how accessible the world is for people who are disabled at any times of their lives, including through aging.

A key part of this research, and consequent change in the way that things are made or run, is often, a survey.

Much of our research includes surveys because they help us to understand more about the ‘problem’ or theme we are investigating: to find out what disabled people are really experiencing and in which areas any further research is needed. Surveys give us powerful things to say, because they allow us to use the collective voice of our 4,000 strong consumer panel to highlight the views and experiences of disabled people to organisations and decision makers.

As a member of our consumer panel, you may also have the opportunity to take part in a variety of other types of research with us, such as focus groups, user testing and mystery shopping. But we will mostly always start with a survey, and we'd like you to know that every time you spend ten minutes answering one for us, you are contributing to a larger mission of understanding, inclusion, and positive change.

Here's why your participation is so valuable

Amplifying Your Voice

Your experiences as a disabled person are unique and invaluable. By sharing your thoughts through our surveys, you ensure that your voice is heard. Having many different panel members take part in RiDC surveys allows us to make sure that the diverse needs, preferences, and challenges faced by disabled people are accurately reflected.

Shaping Better Services

When you provide feedback on existing services or share your needs for new ones, you directly influence how these services are designed and delivered. Organisations and companies use this data to make their offerings more accessible, effective, and user-friendly. Your insights lead to tangible improvements that benefit not only you but the whole community.

Driving Research and Innovation

Surveys are a crucial tool for researchers studying various aspects of what life is like for disabled people. Your responses help generate data that can lead to groundbreaking studies, innovative solutions, and new technologies. This can range from better public transport to more accessible digital platforms, all aimed at improving quality of life.

How to Make the Most of Your Survey Participation

Be Honest and Detailed

The more detailed and honest your responses, the better the data we can gather. Don't hesitate to share both positive and negative experiences—every piece of information is valuable.

Share your Access Needs

We design our surveys to be fully accessible and there are a number of ways you can take part. If you encounter any challenges in accessing them, please let us know so we can improve.

Know That You Make a Difference

Understand that every survey you complete is a step toward progress. It can sometimes take time for change to happen – we all wish it could go more quickly – but your voice is crucial as the first step. When we can, we always share the results of surveys and the change they’ve helped create.

Our consumer panel are at the heart of everything we do and we wouldn’t exist without the tenacious, motivated people like you who share your experiences with us.

Thank you. Your contributions to our surveys are vital in driving change and working towards an inclusive and accessible life for us all.
