Hello, I'm Lynda and I'm a member of the RiDC consumer panel.
I've had Rheumatoid Arthritis since I was two years old and use a powered wheelchair for mobility as my walking is very limited.
My disability, however, has driven me to be extremely passionate about the rights of people with disabilities, particularly integration into a fully inclusive society.
Due to my commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion Chester Phab was formed. Phab National, a charity established in 1957, has a network of 150 clubs throughout England and Wales. Phab’s aim is to promote and encourage people of all abilities to come together on equal terms, to achieve complete inclusion within the wider community. I'm the founder member of Chester Adult Phab (a registered charity) a unique volunteer-led social club with no paid staff for people with and without disabilities, founded in the late 1980’s.
I was the proud recipient of The British Empire Medal (BEM) in the 2016 Birthday Honours List in recognition for my services to Chester Adult Phab Club over 27 years. My role within the organisation is purely voluntary and I've remained actively involved as a committee member since the clubs formation over 30 years ago.
I'm determined to make a difference to the lives of people with and without disabilities and strongly promote disability as being no barrier to leading a successful and fulfilling life.
